THE GREAT ZUCCHINI: CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINER

The Great Zucchini, the DC metro-area's funniest and most magical preschool & kindergarten entertainer, performs a colorful magic show where every child is a star and guaranteed to laugh! For over 25 years, The Great Zucchini has been entertaining young children. He performs his hands-on, interactive magic shows for more than 700 groups a year. His experience, coupled with his gentle nature and wacky facial expressions, makes kids immediately feel comfortable and ready to laugh. TGZ joins us at Olde Tyme Christmas for the first time this year. Let's make him feel welcome!

HORSE AND WAGON TOUR

SIGN UP SHEET LOCATED IN WHITE HALL TAVERN ON POTOMAC STREET ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT - FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED

Enjoy a ride through Lower Town, Harpers Ferry in a horse-drawn wagon. A NPS interpreter will provide you with historical facts while you listen to the clip-clop of the horse's hooves. Tours provided by Country Roads Carriage.

WHILE VISIONS OF SUGARPLUMS DANCED IN THEIR HEADS WORKSHOP

During this Victorian candy-making workshop, visitors will learn the art and mystery of the confectioners' yuletide trade of making treats. Explore the world of sugar and make your own clear toy candy.

$25 per person (children under 6 years old may attend with a registered adult for free) which includes supplies for candy recipes and instructions from a Foodway expert. Sponsored by the Harpers Ferry Park Association.

CHRISTMAS CARD CRAFT

Located on the staircase between High Street and Potomac Street, the Tenfold Fair Trade Collection shop will host a card-making craft. Use stamps, paper, and ink to create your own personalized Christmas cards for friends and family.

Towns Inn

CHILDREN'S CRAFT & ACTIVITY CENTER AT TOWNS INN

Parents, warm up in the Towns Inn Parlor at the Mountain House on High Street. Your little ones will enjoy Christmas music, crafts for free and (some) crafts for a fee, board games, books, and kid-friendly snacks and drinks for $1 each. The Children's Craft & Activity Center will be open daily from December 1 through January 6, so stop in any time you're in Harpers Ferry during those dates. Click here to find a list of the treats that will be offered.

DAY HIKE SPONSORED BY THE SIERRA CLUB

Please join The Sierra Club for this moderate 2.5-mile hike that will give participants a chance to enjoy the park and the town on the last day of Olde Tyme Christmas. Ride the Park shuttle to the Lower Town, then hike stone steps to Jefferson Rock, the Cliff Trail, and Virginius Island. Enjoy expansive winter views and perhaps some wildlife sightings.  The hike is free, but park admission is required. Weather could alter plans, so contact the hike leader for updates or more information: Chris Craig, ccraig@laurellodge.com, 304-433-1260. Note that participants already in Lower Town can meet the tour at the shuttle bus stop on Shenandoah Street about 1:15 pm.

SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS STROLLING THROUGH TOWN

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be strolling through Lower Town, Harpers Ferry (Shenandoah, Potomac, and High Streets) and visiting with guests. Just look out for the red suit. Feel free to ask questions, let them know what's on your Christmas list, and snap some photos!

A ONE-MAN PERFORMANCE OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Sit back and enjoy A Christmas Carol like you’ve never seen it before. Devan Whitacre returns to Harpers Ferry to spread a little Christmas cheer with a one-man rendition of Charles Dicken’s classic tale.

LAST SHUTTLE BUS DEPARTS

The shops in Harpers Ferry and Bolivar will be open late during the Olde Tyme Christmas Celebration; until 9pm or later on Saturdays, and 6pm or later on Sundays. The Harpers Ferry National Historical Park has graciously agreed to run their shuttle buses to the main visitor parking lot on Shoreline Drive until 9:30pm and 6:30pm, respectively.
